Why should I memorize Scripture?

Prayer Focus week 32 (Sunday-Shabbat)

Have you also noticed that it is more difficult to memorize than it was even a couple of years ago?  As we studied last week, what we DO is what we really believe, so why do I need to bother memorizing Scripture?

Five reasons to memorize Scripture:
1.    We are to hide God’s Word in our hearts. (Ps 119:11)
2.    We are to meditate on His Word day and night. (When I review my Scripture at night, I find it is constantly rolling over in my mind – all night!)
3.    It will help keep our ways pure (Ps 119:9-11)
4.    We will be ready in season with the appropriate Scripture and a timely Word.
5.    Memorizing causes our minds to become more nimble.
Verse to memorize:  Today is the day to commit to memorizing Psalm 91!
o    Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust (Psalm 91:1-2, NIV)
o    Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart (Psalm 91:3-4, NIV)
o    You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. (Psalm 91:5-6, NIV)
o    A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. (Ps 91:7-8, NIV)
o    If you make the Most High your dwelling – even the LORD, who is my refuge –
then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. (Ps 91:9-10, NIV)
o   For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; (Ps 91:11, NIV)
Prayer:we blessed to be allowed to intercede for the needs. Some answers come within a few days, others may take weeks or months. Regardless of what we see with our natural eyes, HE is working. We need to continue to be faithful inintercession!

Sacred, precious heavenly Father. We bless You! Thank You for again intervening in all of these situations. Help us to really weigh each of our actions – that they might truly reflect what we want to be in our hearts. Help us to commit Your Word to our hearts; help the meditations of our hearts to be on You and on Your Word. We pray continued favor and blessings on each of these requests – heal the physically and emotionally hurting. Be with our soldiers – bring them home whole: spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically – and stronger than when they left. Be with their wives.
