                                     What is Torah?

What is Torah?
The Torah is a Hebrew term that is commonly understood to be "law"; however, the real meaning comes from it's root yara "to teach" or "to instruct." While Torah can be translated as "law," it is far more than that; it reveals G-d's teaching and instruction to mankind. It is G-d's eternal will revealed for man.

Torah
Torah is G-d's teaching and instruction revealed to man.
It is man's foundation for faith and practice.
Our Living Messiah is the Word (Torah) made flesh John 1:14;1:
1

The Torah is comprised of the first five books of the Bible:
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. John 1:14
Since the Torah came first, it is the foundation upon which all the "Writings" Ketuvim,
Prophets" Neviim and "Apostolic Scriptures" rest and agree.

Foundation of Our Faith
It is the Torah upon which our faith is established in the Messiah, the Apostles of our Lord   did not consider or understand the "Holy Scriptures" as the "Old Testament," rather as the Torah. This is what Paul was referring to in II Timothy 3:16, that "...all Scripture (Torah) is G-d breathed and is useful for
teaching  (revealing G-d and His will),
rebuking (how not to falter but to walk upright),
correcting (practical steps to correct one's walk),
training in righteousness, (instructing in G-d's perfect will),
so that the man of G-d may thoroughly equipped for every good work."

And Yeshua said "Do not think that I have come to abolish the
Torah (Law)  or the
Prophets: I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until
heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen will by any means disappear from the Torah (Law) until everything is accomplished."

                                                                                                                                                  Matthew 5:17,18

Concepts of Our Faith
Faith in the Messiah is built on the Torah, it is in the Torah that all of the Gospel (Good News) flows such as sacrifice, repentance, grace, holiness, sin, righteousness, covenant, sin, forgiveness, kingdom of heaven, faith, love for G-d and fellow man, prayer, communion, festivals, baptism and the list does not stop there! The Torah is the foundation of Yeshua the Messiah, the Apostolic Scriptures and the Gospel.

The Torah is the foundation of our Judaic faith.
    Again:

Torah is G-d's will and instruction revealed to man.
It is man's foundation for faith and practice.
Our Living Messiah is the Word (Torah) made flesh Jn 1:14;1:1

              What are Torah Portions?

Parashat Hashavuah

Parashat HaShavuah is a Hebrew word which means
portion of the week; that is a portion or section
of Scripture
scheduled to be read during a particular
week. This section is also called Torah Portion or
Parasha
.

It is believed when G-d restored Israel to His land from the Babylonian exile that Ezra
and Nehemiah established a systematic reading of Torah which would counter the illiteracy of the Jewish people.

During the Babylonian captivity, synagogues were started and served as houses of study, where the weekly readings were read. Each week, every synagogue from that time through the present read the same portion of  Scripture.  At the Council at Jerusalem, during the time of the apostles, the Apostle James gave the directive that the Gentiles who were turning to G-d were to continue attending synagogue and listening to the Torah portions ...For Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath. Acts 15:21.

Reading Cycle
Between two to six chapters of the Torah are assigned each week plus a corresponding reading from the Haftarah (selected readings of the prophets). At Congregation Faithful Stewardship, we have added a couple of chapters from the Apostolic Scriptures (New Testament).

The 12-month reading schedule begins after the Feast of Tabernacles (in October) with Genesis 1:1. Simchat Torah is the celebration of having completed the reading of the first five books. The following week, the cycle begins again.

Name of Each Portion
Since there were no chapter nor verse designations before nor during the time of the Apostles, the portion was referred to by the first Hebrew word or phrase of the specific portion; for example, one is called Vayikra a Hebrew word for He Called. A Rabbi would say, "you will find where it says, 'He called to Moses.'" Consequently, everyone understood he was referring to Parashat Vayikra (Leviticus 1:1-5:26).

When Does an Individual Read the Parashat HaShavuah?
The Parashat HaShavuah reading is issued on Sunday and is culminated on Shabbat.
